The 30-Minute Digital Time Rule

My 6-year-old son has become a wizard on digital devices. Hand him an iPhone, iPad, or iMac, and he’s right at home. Of course, I’m not a big fan of Wi-Fi, so I make sure he keeps any mobile device in airplane mode as much as possible.

I’m also not a fan of the posture-destroying, sedentary nature of these devices. If left unchecked, he could stay on them for hours—so I came up with a rule:

➡️ Every 30 minutes of screen time, he must do 10 reps each of squats, push-ups, and leg raises.

That’s 30 reps every 30 minutes, and guess what? He’s been sticking to it! He even sets a timer on the stove, and once it beeps, he does his reps.

Try this rule with your kids! If they’re not outside anymore playing street hockey, let’s at least get them moving inside the house.
