Digital Detox

When it comes to detoxification, there’s the obvious toxic culprits, like the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the products we put on our skin, and so forth. There are also some not-so-obvious toxins that burden the human body. For example, one notorious form of air pollution these days is “electrosmog.” It’s generated by electrical devices, it’s invisible, and it surrounds all of us. Cell phones and WiFi lead the list of electrical pollutants, so if you’re truly interested in a detox, start there!

It’s best to commence your digital detox at night. When it’s time to retire for the evening, power off both your cell phone and the router. Some people will even go a step further and shut off the breaker to their bedroom as well to eliminate any form of “dirty electricity” that may be lingering.

These steps can have a profound effect on your sleep. People report the deepest sleep they’ve had in years with this simple fix, and many are able to sleep through the night uninterrupted. Shutting the WiFi off alone may clear persistent headaches and migraines that even harsh drugs are unable to resolve.

Needless to say, you should never keep your cell phone near your bed when you go to sleep. If you must use it as an alarm, crank up the volume to the maximum and keep it in another room overnight.

We live in a digital world. There’s no doubt about it. We can’t eliminate it completely, but we can temporarily. Doing a digital detox at night is a good start. It would be a great health benefit, though, to detox digitally for an entire week. That would be ideal and it can be done periodically when you go on vacation (just leave it all behind).

For the time being, try a digital sabbatical. Take one day off a week from your computer, your cell phone and even your television, and see how you feel. I’m sure if you’re able to survive that day, you’ll feel a lot better for it.

Ultimately, the goal should be to reduce digital time and increase “life” time! Usually you reach for a digital product out of boredom. Try to engage in a healthier task instead, perhaps read more print books, get more exercise, or maybe talk to someone face to face!
