A Breast Milk Alternative

Yesterday, Health Canada warned parents about the health risks of buying breast milk online. One ingredient to consider if you’re looking for an alternative is coconut milk.

Coconut milk is close to human breast milk in its pH, fat and nutrient content; it’s a good source of calcium, manganese, selenium, zinc and iron; and coconut milk contains lauric acid, whose only other abundant source in nature is human breast milk.

You’ll need more than coconut milk though if you plan to make your own homemade baby formula. The Weston A. Price Foundation has some healthy recipes on their website.

By the way, I’m a fan of coconut milk but not of other plant-based milks (like almond milk). That goes for children and adults! Read why in Almonds Don’t Have Breasts.
