Yesterday, Health Canada issued a warning to parents about the potential health risks of buying breast milk online. For those seeking an alternative, one ingredient worth considering is coconut milk.
Coconut milk closely resembles human breast milk in pH, fat, and nutrient content. It’s a good source of calcium, manganese, selenium, zinc, and iron. Perhaps most notably, it contains lauric acid, a fatty acid found abundantly only in coconut and human breast milk.
Of course, coconut milk alone isn’t enough if you’re planning to make your own baby formula. But it can serve as a valuable base. For healthy homemade baby formula recipes, visit the Weston A. Price Foundation.
By the way, while I’m a big fan of coconut milk, I’m not a supporter of most other plant-based “milks”—like almond milk. That applies to both children and adults! Learn why in Almonds Don’t Have Breasts.
