Curcumin for Weight Lifters: Yes or No?

Curcumin is a supplement often recommended to guys that weight lift because it helps to lower inflammation and improve overall joint and muscle health.

And guys in the ‘iron world’ tend to experience ‘iron overload’ due to high consumption of red meat. As I’ve mentioned in the past, curcumin can reduce the build-up of iron in the blood. Check out these studies:

But with the good comes the bad, i.e., curcumin is reported to have antiandrogenic activity (see below). Put simply, curcumin can lower testosterone levels, which may not help your efforts in the gym.

Bottom Line: Don’t just supplement blindly – you may rob Peter to pay Paul! Do some research and determine whether the benefits outweigh any negatives for your particular needs.
