The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a ban on red dye No. 3 in food and oral medicines, citing potential cancer risks. If you search “recent red dye ban” online, you’ll find all the details. While this move is a step forward, it raises a pressing question: why are these dyes still allowed in products that people consume for health benefits, like multivitamins?
Take two of the most popular multivitamin brands: Centrum and Flintstones. A quick glance at their ingredient lists reveals that they contain dyes—a concern for anyone taking these products to improve their health. Even more alarming is the prevalence of these dyes in prenatal vitamins, which are marketed to expectant mothers.
This issue isn’t new. Years ago, I wrote an article titled “How to Choose a Prenatal Multivitamin” highlighting the disparity between low-quality, dye-laden products and superior alternatives. Take a look: https://theelitetrainer.com/how-to-choose-a-prenatal-multivitamin/
It’s time to reconsider the multivitamins we use. If your supplement contains any type of dye, throw it out!
For my family and my clients, I recommend Essential Multivitamin. It’s one of our best sellers for a reason—no unnecessary additives, just high-quality ingredients.
Bottom Line: Taking care of your health starts with making informed choices. If you’re using a multivitamin to improve your health, make sure it’s free from harmful dyes and low-quality ingredients. Check the label, and don’t settle for anything less than the best.
