Interval Training for Children

When it comes to kids and exercise, fun is the key! If you can turn physical activity into a game, you’ll build lifelong habits and create positive associations with movement.

My son loves watching Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix—so we created our own version right in the gym. It’s a simple obstacle course that includes running, crawling, jumping, pushing, and pulling. He gives it his all trying to beat his best time, and most importantly, he loves doing it!

This kind of interval-style training keeps things engaging while building strength, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just use the equipment and space you have available, throw in a few fun challenges, and let your child compete against the clock—or better yet, against themselves. You’ll be surprised how hard they’re willing to work when it feels like play.
