Today’s workout reminded me of a very important lesson: Listen to your body!
You’re probably expecting a sermon on how it’s best to hold back a bit in training to make continual progress and reduce the chance of injury. Nine times out of ten that’s true, but not always.
Once in a blue moon the stars will align and you’ll enter the gym with superhuman strength and energy. The bar will lift rather effortlessly, your energy and aggression will be soaring, and you’ll be in the mood to destroy the weights. When that day arrives, listen to your body… and go for it!
More times than not you’ll do punch the clock workouts and get the job done. Some workouts will be terrible, some will be good, and every once in a while you’ll experience a workout that’s exceptional.
I’ll get to the point: Occasionally, when the horse wants to gallop, loosen the reins and let it go!
